Projects in Ukraine

Our ongoing work in partnership with Chernivtsi National University

Guest Lecture at the Department of Linguistics and Translation, 2025

What began as a small collaboration in 2022 has quickly grown into a powerful, ongoing partnership between Docutribe and Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University, that has included multiple local organizations and high schools.

The University, a public institution in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, has been a significant hub for higher education and research since its establishment in 1875.

Situated at the esteemed Residence of Bukovinian and Dalmatian Metropolitans building complex, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the university has distinguished itself as a leading Ukrainian academic institution.

Docutribe is now partnered with the Department of Linguistics and Translation , the Department of Journalism and in early stages of working with the Law School. Additionally, we have worked with high school students at the Chernivtsi Lyceums, which are connected to the University. Undergraduate, graduate, and lyceum students alike have received training in current filmmaking tools and technology, as well as curricula in leadership and how to tell their stories to a wide audience.

Our partnership continues to evolve and expand. In Spring 2025, we successfully piloted a new intensive course, Journalism and Storytelling in a Democratized Media Landscape, equipping students with the tools to tell compelling stories of Ukraine’s culture and resilience. This initiative soon scaled into an even more ambitious program — Journalism, War, and Society: Audiovisual Storytelling in Journalism and News for Social Impact — which enrolled twice as many students and was completed with great success this December. We have tripled the number of students for our course starting September 2026 and are extending invitations to other Universities in Kyiv, Ukraine and leaders of local organizations to audit our course!

Celebrating Ukraine

What began as a collaboration in a small remote classroom in 2022 has grown into a dynamic partnership between Docutribe and Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University (ChNU), made possible by the leadership and support of Rector Ruslan Biloskurskyi; former Head of the Department of Linguistics and Translation Vasyl Bialyk; new Head of the Department of Linguistics and Translation, Myroslava Kovaliuk; Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Tetiana Kolisnychenko; faculty members throughout the University; and our partners at the Ukraine Is Invincible Foundation.

This work continues to evolve thanks to the support of families and partners who help us strengthen and refine the program. We are especially grateful to our newest partner, latakoo, whose platform provides students with industry-standard tools for media storage, transcription, and subtitling, giving them hands-on experience with technologies used by today's media professionals.

Department of Journalism

Honoring Ukraine

Following the success of Docutribe's inaugural filmmaking course with the Department of Linguistics and Translation, the partnership expanded to the Department of Journalism with the help of the Head of Department of Journalism, Liubov Vasylyk;

As Ukraine continues to navigate the realities of war, displacement, and cultural preservation, the program gave aspiring journalists an opportunity to document their communities with ethical storytelling, integrity, and hope. Through documentary storytelling, students explored not only the challenges facing Ukraine, but also the resilience, traditions, and local solutions shaping its future.

Work With the Lyceums

Building on the success of our university programs, Docutribe expanded its work to Ukrainian lyceums (high schools), starting with Lyceum 9 via the support of Lead Principal, Anzhelika Dziubko, bringing resilience informed storytelling and filmmaking to younger students. By introducing documentary storytelling earlier in their educational journey, students learned to explore their identities, celebrate their communities, and thoughtfully document the realities of life in Ukraine. And all with a bit of humor!

While offering opportunities to interact with native speakers, these sessions nurture creativity, critical thinking, and leadership, empowering the next generation to preserve their culture and shape a more hopeful future through film.

Featured Films

With zero dollars, a smartphone and commitment, these films emerged from our Ukrainian community members whom we are honored to support today.

The Docutribe staff partners closely with faculty, students, and community members at the University. Our professors come from a variety of expertise and academic disciplines including Linguistics, Translation, Journalism, Arts, and Law.

The University Team

“We have the opportunity not only to learn but also to express our feelings openly and share our personal stories. This is especially important now when students in Ukraine live under constant danger, this project has become a safe space where we can speak openly and feel heard.”

— Diana Hriaban, Docutribe student
