The Fellows Programs
The Docutribe fellowship is one that is meant to offer structured time wherein the Docutribe community helps each fellow dive deeply into a challenge for which they want to make a positive sustainable difference. Or, the fellow can choose to celebrate those things in their background that are often underrepresented, for which the act of celebrating via media content will support positive impact. Each fellowship starts out as one year and starts by offering community support via one-on-one consultations with seasoned filmmaking professionals and subject matter experts. At times, we help support raising funds for fellows. The learning outcomes for each fellowship include professional advancement in areas of storytelling, the ethics of journalism, social innovation, media communications, leadership training, and community engagement and organizing.
There are two types of fellowships which are currently offered by invite only.
-
Docutribe seeks to empower and rectify inequities in communities by providing rising filmmakers and marginalized groups with the knowledge and resources to use filmmaking as an innovative problem-solving tool and a force for unifying their communities.
The Social Filmmaker Fellowship is offered to approximately four (4) incoming fellows a year. The fellowship is granted to individuals who are able to clearly identify an ongoing area of social impact for which they are prepared to commit their time and resources to attempt to address and solve aspects of said issue. -
Storytelling has become an essential component for an institution to survive. There are many ways that storytelling plays out within an institution: clarifying the vision and mission, communicating an institution's activities that are aligned with values and goals beyond the vision and mission (for example social impact, social justice, DEI&B or ESG programs), messages for your customer (whether they are a funder or buyer of a product/service), leadership stories, raising the voices of the internal or external communities, communications with vendors, and beyond. Companies new to this need and that have a clear connection to social impact work, are welcome to apply.
During the first year, we offer consulting on storytelling, systems change, budgeting, and arts capacity building. This fellowship does not promise funding, however, Docutribe looks to support institutional fellows to the maximum capacity.
What’s a “Fellow”?
An individual selected to participate in a program of advanced study, research, professional development, leadership, or public service, typically based on demonstrated merit, promise, or expertise, and often receiving mentorship, funding, or institutional affiliation.
Meet Our Fellows
Docutribe Fellows are emerging and established storytellers committed to using film as a catalyst for positive social change. Through mentorship, collaborative filmmaking, and Resilience-Informed Storytelling, they develop the skills to transform personal experience into powerful narratives that strengthen communities. Fellows gain technical expertise, leadership training, and access to a global network of filmmakers, educators, and changemakers. They learn not only how to make compelling documentaries, but how to listen deeply, lead ethically, and foster meaningful dialogue. By documenting the stories that matter most, Docutribe Fellows become ambassadors for empathy, resilience, and lasting social impact.
