In Partnership
shake-A-Leg and Mood Park Launch our
Trauma-Informed Filmmaking Program
THE QUESTION: With a global mental health pandemic and a shortage of mental health providers, how can we equip our community leaders with tools that will support emotional resiliency and well-being?
THE SOLUTION: In a Florida-based camp, Shake-A-Leg, where youth are navigating physical, developmental and economic challenges— our docutribe fellow, Olivia Dans created and provided a two-week trauma-informed intensive filmmaking program with the support and partnership of non-profit, Mood Park. Mood Park was founded by our docutribe advisor, Morgan DeFranco who has been helping us bring this program to life with additional guidance from Michael Franklin, professor and past chair of the graduate Transpersonal Art Therapy program at Naropa University. The docutribe and Mood Park team invited Shake-A-Leg camp participants to discover and share their unique voices by engaging in the process of making a documentary film about their camp experiences and aspirations for their future.
THE IMPACT: Through the camp-wide collaboration, our youth discovered their creativity and voices, a sense of self confidence, how to seek to understand others, and the joy and hope found unity and solidarity.
